Whether you are Catholic or not, it is important to view this video.
The Catholic Church has since the 1st century defended life from the moment of conception to natural death. Yet many criticize the Church for spending too much time defending the unborn and not enough time defending people who are already born. But the reality is the Church has a long history of helping the poor, the homeless, the sick and diseased.
It is true, and more so in recent years, that the Church has emphasized the need for Catholics to stand up for life and pray for an end to abortion. The reason being is, in part, that there are approximately 4,000 innocent lives taken every day in America by abortion. That means 4,000 families destroyed every day, 4,000 mothers mourning the death of their child, 4,000 fathers abandoning their responsibility. The numbers are staggering, you must admit!
It is not just the tremendous loss of life, but the way it defiles the mindset. It facilitates a society unmoved by the death of innocent lives. A society that ignores the responsibility of protecting human life, is one that does not abide by a true set of standards.
If the unborn is unsafe, who is next? We have already seen how a lackadaisical attitude towards killing innocent life leads to more innocent deaths. If we can kill the unborn than we can also kill the old, the sick and the disabled, so long as it is our choice to do so.
In the Netherlands where euthanasia has been commonplace even before legalization in 2002, a parent can kill their own child below the age of 12 if the child’s suffering is deemed intolerable or if they have an incurable illness. I am not trying to be an alarmist, I am simply telling the truth. Justifiable killing of innocent life is a slippery slope that leads to more justifiable killing of more innocent human life.
The Church teaches that “The inalienable right to life of every innocent human individual is a constitutive element of a civil society and its legislation.” (CCC 2273) The Church defines human life, as follows:
Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person — among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life. (CCC 2270)
The words put forth in the Catechism of the Catholic Church can be argued from a moral perspective, not necessarily from a religious one. In a civil society, the right to life is first, without that right, no one is protected, and everyone is vulnerable.
From a Catholic perspective, I feel in my heart that God is calling each and every one of us to join and fight this moral and civil issue of the right to life for the most vulnerable form of human life, the unborn.

This is a universal issue. A society that considers the destruction of innocent lives to be a “right” is not a society that will protect the elderly or the ill. Snarky liberal commentators will wish that people like you and me would be around when they are sick.
