Respect for Just Laws
By: Vincent Ferro
In his May 6th column in Catholic New York, Archbishop Dolan described Mario Cuomo as “savvy, intelligent, and perceptive” regarding the Catholic Faith, Archbishop Dolan’s remarks were occasioned by Cuomo’s editorial in the Wall Street Journal. A nagging question remains for the Archbishop: If Cuomo is so “savvy, intelligent, and perceptive” concerning Catholicism why does the former governor publicly support the murdering of babies through legalized abortion? In reality, Cuomo should be excommunicated not lavished with totally inappropriate accolades by the Archbishop.
Similarly, the Archbishop disingenuously attributes Arizona’s immigration law to “a climate of fear” and to “anti-immigrant fever”. In actuality, Arizona’s legislators and governor were motivated by respect for the just laws of our nation. This is supposed to be a country where no one is above the law. As the grandchild of legal Italian immigrants I pose this query: With reference to illegal aliens, what part of “illegal” doesn’t Archbishop Dolan understand?
Archbishop Dolan, stop demonizing the law abiding citizens of Arizona while giving kudos to apostates such as Mario Cuomo!
